The impetus to consider "Golden Ages" is not necessarily a simplistic form of nostalgia. It is often an attempt to discard the culture of the recent past in order to build anew from a superior foundation. The identification of these periods of civilizational excellence is also a necessary task for the historian. For only in comparison to the perfect form of a given society can the "primitive" and "post-classic" periods be identified. In conclusion, the study of Golden Ages is critical for visionary thinkers, if one wishes to avoid the confines of the recent past. For it does not matter if the Golden Age in question is remembered in a rose-colored light or inaccurately, so long as it serves as the kernel of the next civilization.
