You are absolutely right that as humans we develop ourselves best by scrubbing our ideas against each other. Anytime I do this, while keeping a curious mind, I come out having learned something new. Unfortunately, I notice it is getting more and more difficult to find people to do this with. As if no-one seems to recognize the importance and the fun of having such conversations. When it comes to AI, there will be always human decisioning required, such as determining the purpose and intent of the AI, how we value its result, how we control its behavior, how we define the meaning of the data it needs to work with. If we do not, we become mere passengers of AI. We become like a dog that does not understand where his food comes from. If conversations help me understand and stay in the drivers seat, it will be more important than ever.

You are touching on something absolutely critical here, putting human beings at the centre of tech. Getting big tech under some kind of human control again.

Please take a look at this proposal. It argues that everything we need to have sane, sustainable, human and humane societies is actually in place and trying to function -- only we mess it all up by failing to comprehend the organic structure that is already there and is trying to express itself.

All that's needed is *consciousness* -- but true mass consciousness, a genuine and general social awakening on the part of the human race. Otherwise I am 100% certain it's all over for us, we are descending into the kind of chaos from which there is no return. There's a very narrow window indeed to try save the situation.

I've explained these principles to children, in simplified form, they had no trouble understanding the concepts. These principles should be taught in every school to every kid.

I've been saying, we need H2H signalling these days -- human to human. H2H channels with high signal-to-noise ratios. I think we're on the same page. Good luck. I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this proposal -- I had been meaning to write it for years, in the end it got written very quickly indeed but I'm happy with it:

Will this be like a filter for the new “principals” of society: the ones who engage in the processes of knowledge building and skill development, apart from AI? Per Ruxandra’s quote, the people who have taste, who know how to solve problems and ask the right questions, are the ones who do what you describe, and engage each other in these tasks. Leadership in society will shift to these people, and the world will continue spinning on its new paradigm. There will, probably, always be people who enjoy the process for the sake of itself. Artists will always desire to create.

Yes, but the good thing is conversation is something all humans can take part in, one way or another. And so this is not a closed system, more like an invitation. The forum is open, replicable — can be spread and built anywhere.

I see what you’re saying. So maybe the playing field becomes more level than ever before. But, still, only so many people will accept the invitation, right?

Anna, Your comment "we will only remain humans together" is the 'alignment' message AI is simply giving back to us. It's not about AI as Pogo would offer, the enemy is us. Will we ever truly come together in this world? Might we see the message we need a machine to send us, that it is we who need to align before . . .
